To the south, around Adeje, Arona, San Miguel and Granadilla de Abona, the sun, beaches and sea are an open invitation to take a dip at any time of the year.

On the northern side, you will find the lushly green yet still sun-kissed landscapes of untamed cliffs with secluded beaches: from Buenavista del Norte and the picturesque spots of Garachico and San Juan de la Rambla, the traditional wine-growing area of Icod de los Vinos with its beautiful fincas, and the famous Orotava Valley as far as the exclusive villa and holiday resorts to the northeast of Puerto de la Cruz. The northern coast's sunniest region comprises Santa Ursula, La Victoria de Acentejo, La Matanza de Acentejo, El Sauzal and Tacoronte.

For romantics and nature lovers, the Anaga Mountains in the northeast combine the beauty of jagged peaks set against an azure sea, laurel woods and deep valleys with proximity to the capital, Santa Cruz, with its diverse cultural, culinary and shopping amenities.

In the southwest, Los Cristianos is a well-known starting point for whale watching and for excursions to the mighty Los Gigantes cliffs, Masca Ravine or the neighbouring islands.

Tenerife owes its unique landscape to the famous Pico de Teide volcano, at 3,718 metres Spain's highest elevation, which acts as a north-south weather divide. The extensive nature reserve of this volcanic mountain is always worth a visit, for newcomers and long-term residents alike.
